Baltimore Marathon

If you’ve been around Baltimore the past few weeks you might have noticed a significant uptick in the number of runners pounding the pavement. That’s because Saturday marks the Under Armour Baltimore Running Festival, which kicks off and ends at the stadiums downtown.

Inside Lacrosse will be representing, with staff members including myself, Jeff Dudley, Terry Foy, Keely Knopp, Sean Burns and freelancer extraordinaire Sam Sankovich banging out the miles Saturday. Injuries decimated the IL relay teams so we’re pretty much going to freelance with distances.

Last year Daddy Duds took out youngster Foy (who is about half his age) in the half-marathon, and they’ll do battle again this year. Duds has already been sandbagging that he’s out of shape but we all know he’s hustling us. I’m going to see if I can keep up with those two for 13 miles, which is unlikely.

Either way, it should be a good time. Props to Corrigan Sports Enterprises, who we work closely with since they run the Under Armour All-America Lacrosse Classic, and of course UA itself, for putting on a first-class event.

It’s pretty cool running through the city with people cheering you on. I’ve seen high school marching bands (awesome), some dude with a boombox playing “Eye of the Tiger” over and over, drunk Hopkins students partying (jealous), a guy running in what looked like Harry’s blue suit from Dumb and Dumber and plenty of other things you don’t get running on a treadmill watching Becker repeats.Anyway, being that we’re in Baltimore, there’s always a host of lacrosse connections running the race. If you’re heading out, let us know. Duds was trying to get me to tweet during the race Saturday so you guys could follow along, but that was clearly his plot to take me off my game. So you’ll have to wait until after (check Twitter.com/Inside_Lacrosse) to find out how everyone finished up.

And if you’ve got any money pre-race meals/songs/routines/advice you want to post below (or the best ways to celebrate afterward), we’re all ears. I’m all set on tunes (the new Megadeth album rocks …) but could definitely use some help in other areas. Best of luck to all.
