Here’s another famous name now singing for The Lord … a name well-known in popular music, and with connections to one-time supergroups the Beach Boy and the Mamas & the Papas.

It’s Chynna Phillips, a former chart-topper herself, who says that despite huge commercial success, “nothing compares to what I’m doing now.”

Famously one-third of the pop supergroup Wilson Phillips, nothing now “is more gratifying as a Christian believer than being able to thread my faith and love for Jesus into my music,” she says.

What she’s doing now is launching a new phase of her music career, joining independently-famed singer/songwriter Vaughan Penn to form the female duo “Chynna & Vaughan.”

The duo’s debut album, “One Reason,” is set to release Oct. 6 on Reunion Records.

Phillips and Penn met in 2007 and formed a creative partnership based on their passion to share the hope of Christ with a hurting world.

Penn feels that “contemporary Christian music is for me, the very best music in the world.

“It’s the most beautiful, healing and hopeful music that exists. We are doing this because it’s our calling. We want our music to bring light to dark places and offer healing for listeners.”

The new album’s title track and first radio single is already generating buzz. Phillips says of the “One Reason” single, “This is a song about the busyness of life. The lyrics … ask us to put the Lord first, amid the craziness, and remember that He is our one reason for life.”

The girl-harmony-rich Wilson Phillips sold over 10 million copies of its music worldwide, yet despite this extraordinary success, Phillips said she did not experience true joy and peace until she gave her life to Christ six years ago.

She has been married to actor William Baldwin since 1995, and the couple has three children: daughter Jameson (born 2000), son Vance (born 2002), and daughter Brooke (born 2004).

The daughter of Mamas/Papas singers and co-founders John and Michelle Phillips, she’s also the half-sister of, among others, “One Day At a Time” actress Mackenzie Phillips.
